Of course, this is the goal, but varies a bit for each individual. Prior to the session your artist will apply a topical anesthetic to numb the area, and also reapply throughout the procedure. Topical anesthetics used may contain lidocaine, prilocaine, benzocaine, tetracaine and epinephrine.

A: At The Goodface, we are licensed tattoo artists by the Oregon Health Licensing Office and certified in Blood Born Pathogens and CPR Training. We take all proper precautions for a safe session by using sterilized + disposable equipment, new + disposable needles, and in a sanitized environment. Should clients follow our pre and post care instructions, there should be minimal risks or complications . Although allergic reactions to the pigments are rare, it could be possible for certain individuals. We suggest a pigment patch test for individuals who have high skin sensitivities or are sensitive to: topical makeup products, gold, silver and nickel, and/or hair dyes. Patch tests should be performed 5-7 days prior.
A: For a few days following your treatment, you may experience tightness and itching as you begin to flake or peel. DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH. Let the entire area shed naturally to avoid the risk of losing pigment and/or cause infection. You can expect on average that your tattoo will appear darker than your desired color right after your procedure. On average, depending on the procedure, your tattoo will fade 30-60% within the healing process.
A: A cosmetic tattoo takes about 4-6 weeks to fully heal and the binding process to happen within the skin, but the first 7-10 days are when the peeling will happen.
A: The Perfecting Session (touch-up) is required 6-8 weeks after your initial appointment, due to the fact that outcomes vary and everyone heals differently. Pigments may need to be adjusted and/or areas where pigment may not have retained color will require reinforcement (all completely normal). This is when we refine your tattoo and where the magic happens!
A: There is no restriction as to when you can go out into public. It is normal to experience a mild amount of redness or swelling. It is usually gone within a few hours - 24 hours after the appointment. Typically clients experience a "sunburn" feeling after they have received a tattoo. The skin may feel tight and tender after the procedure.
A: These procedures are semi-permanent, as the pigment is implanted only as deep as the epidermis (not down into the dermis as traditional tattoos). The area will naturally fade overtime. They typically lasts 1-3 years, depending on skin type (normal, oily, dry), age (youthful/mature), and how well you care for them. Skincare routine will also affect the lasting effect of the pigment: individual who tan, uses products with AHA or Glycolic Acid will fade more quickly, as your skin will resurface faster. Each individual's color retention within the skin will vary.
